officials - overview.
OVERVIEW
The Norths Officiating Program is one of the most progressive and innovative in Australian basketball, with our referees officiating in more than 10,500 games in the local competition each year. Norths has a strong commitment to the provision of quality officials for all games played and invests significantly in the ongoing education and development of all officials we have actively involved in the association.
As well as the 10,500 domestic competition games, our officials also service our representative program conducted by Basketball NSW, which includes our 22 Waratah Junior representative teams and 4 Waratah Senior representative teams. We have over 50 Norths junior referees participating in the Waratah Junior League panel, along with 8 referees who referee on the NBL1 East and BNSW Waratah Senior League panels.
Norths also has a strong commitment to supporting and developing our Scorebench officials and Statisticians and the association is one of the leaders in NSW in these important areas of the sport. Norths officials are actively involved in BNSW representative leagues, as well as the UBL, WNBL, and NBL competitions. We have ongoing training provided to ensure there is a pathway for all our technical officials. Norths operates full “LiveStats” on our Premier Men’s and Women's competitions and this is used as a key training environment for the ongoing development of statisticians within the association.
To ensure we continue to offer quality officiating and technical officials for all games played at the association, Norths provides ongoing training, courses, and professional development events throughout the year. These courses include trainee and community courses for entry level officials, right through to providing courses for our more experienced and aspiring referees, score-table officials and statisticians.
